The city of Smithville is served by the Smithville R-II School District. The district has earned Distinction in Performance for High Achievement, the highest level of accreditation available to Missouri School districts.
The Smithville R-II School District has four teachers who have been nationally recognized for successfully completing the prestigious and rigorous National Board Teacher Certification Program. And Smithville High School is home to Darryl Johnson, the 2006-2007 Missouri Teacher of the Year.
