The Water & Sewer department provides water and sanitary sewer services for the City of Smithville. The department consists of three divisions: the water plant, the wastewater plant, and the distribution crew.
The water plant is a 2.5-million gallons-a-day plant. The water comes from Smithville Lake and is treated, tested, and pumped out to our four towers where it waits to be used. The water plant operates seven days-a-week, including all holidays, from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm.
The wastewater plant is a 1.25-million gallons-a-day plant. The plant receives wastewater from 33 lift stations located throughout the City. The wastewater plant operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
The distribution crew is responsible for maintaining all water mains, sewer mains, and the 33 lift stations. They also do day-to-day work orders to assist our customers. The distribution crew operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
