The Big Takeaways - May 5, 2026
The Board met in Work Session on Tuesday evening. Included in the FY2026 Budget are funds for an update to the 2019 Strategic Plan. Maddi Powers Spencer, Senior Consultant at BerryDunn, presented an overview of the 2026 Strategic Plan Update Project and their project approach. The process will include multiple ways for the community to provide feedback and opportunities to engage both online and in-person. The website will be launching in the coming week, so stay tuned for more information once it is live.

The Board took the following action during Regular Session:
- Proclaimed May as Older Americans Month
- Proclaimed the week of May 3 - 9 as Public Service Recognition Week.
- Held a Public Hearing on the Voluntary Annexation of 18410 H & H Road
- Approved the April 21, 2026, Board of Aldermen Work Session Minutes
- Approved the April 21, 2026, Board of Aldermen Regular Session Minutes
- Approved a Resolution issuing a Temporary Liquor License to Smithville Main Street District for the Sip the Square: A Whiskey Social to be held Saturday, June 6, 2026
- Approved a Resolution issuing a Temporary Liquor License to West Bottoms Whiskey Co. for the Sip the Square: A Whiskey Social to be held Saturday, June 6, 2026
- Approved a Resolution renaming the Smithville Senior Center to Smithville Activity Center
- Approved on second reading an Ordinance amending sections of Chapter 400 of the zoning code regulating battery energy storage facilities
- Approved on first and second reading an Ordinance amending the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Smithville, Missouri by granting a conditional use permit for an ADU at 1600 East Main Street
- Approved on first and second reading an Ordinance amending the FY2026 Budget to add $46,542.18 to the General Fund, $3,629.87 to the Combined Water and Wastewater Systems Fund expenditure budget, $38,292 to the Public Safety Sales Tax Fund, and $25,064 to the Park and Stormwater Sales Tax Fund.
- Approved an Ordinance annexing certain adjacent territory into the City of Smithville, Missouri - 18410 H & H Lake Road
- Approved a Resolution adopting amendments to the Employee Compensation Plan
- Approved a Resolution approving a change order for the OK Railroad Trail project with Epic Concrete Construction, Inc. in the amount of $25,064

Maintenance Updates
- Parks
- Hanging baskets have been placed around Courtyard Park and City Hall
- Received 70 Missouri Native flowers as a donation from Missouri Department of Conservation to be planted at Courtyard Park. This will give year-round color to downtown!
- Streets
- Completed Marcus Rd culvert project
- Installed new culvert at Marcus Rd
- Began drainage project at Wildflower Subdivision (pond drawdown for storm drain repair)
- Picked up materials for 24” storm drain replacement
- Hauled 129.8 tons of ¾” rock for Water Treatment Plant
- Picked up materials for dirt work at Commercial & Summit
- Sprayed weeds at Second Creek & Bridge St, Amory guardrails, Coulter Addition, 180th St and 188th St
- Mowed at 169 Hwy, Second Creek Rd, riverbanks, 172nd & F Hwy intersection, N Main St, 188th & N Main to 18501 N Main, 188th & Woodruff to 169 Hwy and Amory Rd
- Replaced hose on backhoe and replaced blower motor in Unit 5500
- Reported Concerns at Marina Ct, Lakeside Crossing, Highland, Fifth St, 134th St, Fletcher & Amesbury, Spelman, Greyhawke, Hospital Dr and Amory Rd
- Total Drinking Water Production 6,598,000 gal
- Completed all testing required at the WTP
- Conducted weekly chemical level checks at the WTP for ordering
- Backwashed filters 1,2,3,4 and 5 at the WTP
- Continued working on project high service pump room rehabilitation at the WTP. Sanding pipes to prep for new paint
- Mounted the CL17 and turbidity monitor for the transfer pump well at the WTP
- Ran additional wires for SCADA to the chemical building
- Completed 20 work orders
- 73 locates completed
- Completed all testing required at WWTP
- Treated 5,604,000 gallons of wastewater
- Completed weekly checks of all booster station and towers in the distribution system
- Completed monthly meter reads and re reads
- Collected the monthly sample at the WWTP and delivered to Pace Analytical
- Completed grounds maintenance at the WWTP
- Staff repaired the mission box at the Marina Court lift station
- Completed grounds maintenance at the south tower, south booster, north tower and north booster
