Senior Center Updates
  • The Smithville Kiwanis Club is sponsoring bingo and a hotdog cookout on Tuesday 5/19
  • Health screenings with NKC health on Friday 5/22 from 8:45-11AM
  • There was a great turnout for Monday’s birthday celebration with 65 in attendance.
  • The falls prevention presentation was Wednesday, and the speakers discussed ways to reduce the risk of falls.
  • Southern Bank sponsored Bingo for this week.
  • Friday is our monthly cookout with 60+ people planning to attend.

Maintenance Updates

  • Parks
    • Crew dug up and repaired 3 leaks at the campground this week.
    • Repaired shower heads at campground bath house
    • Brush mowed ditches at Smith’s Fork in preparation for Memorial Day
    • Trimmed bushed at City Hall, Activity Center, and Remembrance Park
    • Cleared gutters at City Hall
  • Streets
    • Jetted 19517 Mulberry outfall 
    • Filled dumpster with debris from street sweeper
    • Cleaned up glass at 210 N Bridge St
    • Cleaned up gravel on 134th St in preparation for dust control spraying
    • Spread 20 tons of ¾” rock around basins at the Water Treatment Plant
    • Prepared areas for asphalt and concrete work
    • Shut down the road and prepared Marcus Rd for asphalt work
    • Placed 20 tons of asphalt
    • Conducted culvert inspections at 14700 Mt Olivet and 14723 Emerald Ct
    • Completed mowing around the city
    Utilities
    • Total Drinking Water Production 6,705,000 gal
    • Completed all testing required at the WTP
    • Conducted weekly chemical level checks at the WTP for ordering
    • Backwashed filters 1,2,3,4 and 5 at the WTP
    • Continued working on project high service pump room rehabilitation at the WTP. Sanding pipes to prep for new paint
    • Installed a new feed pump for bleach
    • Continue installing SCADA wiring in the chemical building
    • Completed 22 work orders
    • 70 locates completed
    • Completed all testing required at WWTP
    • Treated 4,435,000 gallons of wastewater
    • Completed weekly checks of all booster station and towers in the distribution system
    • Repaired a water service leak at 208 Ashmont Ct
    • Completed adding sewer chemicals to gravity sewer mains
    • Completed the total replacement of the fire hydrant in front of Packs Hardware
    • Cleaned sewer main at 314 East Meadow
    • Collected 3 E-coli samples and delivered to Kansas City Labs
    • Collected 5 bac-t samples and delivered
    • Emptied the excess flow basin and washed down
