Community Engagement Updates
  • Want to learn more about how your City works? The City of Smithville is hosting a series of Community Conversations: Your City, Up Close sessions designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at City operations and facilities. The first session will feature a tour of the City’s water and wastewater facilities. Participants will learn how these systems work, how they are funded, and have opportunities to ask questions along the way. The session will be held on  October 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. Transportation will be provided for the tours. Advance registration is required, and participation is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more and register: smithvillemo.org/cityupclose

    • Helped prepare campground for Nehemiah Fest

    Streets
    • Installed the American Flags downtown in honor of 9/11
    • Cleared weeds at Liberty St. and 92 Hwy 
    • Cleaned up brush that had been pushed into ditch on Quincy Blvd
    • Cleaned equipment interior and exterior to prepare for Touch-A-Truck Event
    • Mowed roadsides at 134th St and Second Creek Road
    • Poured approximately 10 yards of concrete for street repair at Park Dr
    • Fixed stop sign base at Southeast corner of Main St. and Bridge St
    • Took equipment to Heritage Park for the Touch-a-Truck event
    • Continuing repairs on Park Dr
    • Repaired storm box lid at Wildflower Pond
    • Mowed hillside at 201 E Woods St
    • Received locates for asphalt repair at 505 Highland Ave
    • Mowed around south shop area
  • Utilities
    • Total Drinking Water Production 9,489,000 gal
    • Completed all testing required at the WTP
    • Staff completed ground maintenance at WTP and the Water Towers 
    • Conducted weekly chemical level checks at the WTP for ordering
    • Backwashed filters 1,2,3,4 and 5 at the WTP
    • Completed grounds maintenance at the WTP
    • Relocated the bleach pump to the pipe gallery in the basement of the WTP
    • Completed 28 work orders
    • 53 locates completed
    • Completed all testing required at WWTP
    • Staff completed ground maintenance at WWTP/Pump Stations
    • Treated 4,893,000 gallons of wastewater
    • Completed weekly checks of all booster station and towers in the distribution system
    • Collected and delivered 2 E-coli samples to the KCMO laboratory
    • Replaced the water service line at 405 South Mill Street
    • Replaced 30 radio transmitters for the water meter reading system
    • Cleaned the fresh air intake and replaced the blower motor on the sludge application truck
