The Big Takeaways - October 6, 2026
The Board met in Work Session on Tuesday Evening. President & CEO of the Smithville Area Chamber of Commerce Nick Harlin presented the annual report to the Board. The FY2027 Budget includes the final year of the current services agreement, with the addition of use of an office space and conference room. The renewal will be on the October 20 Regular Meeting agenda.
City Attorney Mathias Young presented an overview of the Business License Ordinance Review. The Board provided feedback to change the license schedule to January 1 - December 31, and to have a prorated option for new businesses.

The Board took the following actions on Tuesday evening:
- Mayor Boley recognized and celebrated Thomas "Bud" Warring on the occasion of his 100th Birthday.
- Approved the September 24, 2026, Board of Aldermen Strategic Planning Session Minutes
- Approved the September 29, 2026, Board of Aldermen Regular Session Minutes
- Approved a Resolution acknowledging first renewal of the agreement with R&S Lawn Service Inc. for residential snow removal services.
- Approved a Resolution approving water and wastewater leak adjustment to Sharon Crist in the amount of $387.70.
- Approved on first and second reading an Ordinance authorizing the Mayor to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the Interlocal Cooperative Agreement between the City of Smithville and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office for participation on the Special Tactics and Response Team.
- Approved on first and second reading an Ordinance approving the Declaration of Deed for OK Railroad Trail.
- Approved an Ordinance adopting the FY2027 annual budget for the City of Smithville, Missouri, and authorizing the expenditures of funds for municipal services.
- Approved on first reading a Resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute an engineering services agreement with BG Consultants for Richardson Street and US 169 Highway Intersection Improvements Project in an amount not to exceed $164,892.25.
- Appointed Andrea Sheridan to the Planning & Zoning Commission
- Appointed Matt Tyson to the Planning & Zoning Commission

The City of Smithville is hosting a series of Community Conversations: Your City, Up Close sessions designed to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at City operations and facilities. The first session will feature a tour of the City’s water and wastewater facilities. Participants will learn how these systems work, how they are funded, and have opportunities to ask questions along the way. The session will be held on October 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. Transportation will be provided for the tours. Advance registration is required, and participation is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. - Submitted 3rd quarter grant reports to Clay County Senior Services
- 12 people enjoyed our first Mexican train dominoes event on Tuesday! New players welcome every Tuesday at 11:00AM
- Next week we will be celebrating October birthday on 10/12 with our monthly fried chicken lunch and birthday cake. Extra special wishes to Bettie Bender (101) and Bud Warring (100)!

- Parks
- Winterized splash park
- Performed maintenance on finish mower
- Repaired Activity Center ice machine
- Decorated downtown for fall
- Worked on City Hall restroom toilet
- Cleaned and organized south shop.
- Attended Storm Trap Training at City Hall.
- Worked on dump truck 107: air filter pipe came off had to reinstall pipe and reset codes and replace air filter.
- Crew took MPR Trainings for Dump Truck and Chainsaw safety.
- Worked on getting brine setup together to prepare for winter road treatment.
- Picked up 50 traffic channelizers from The Work Zone.
- Loaded all 200 channelizers and bases on a trailer to prepare for homecoming parade.
- Installed sink at south shop.
- Set out and picked up Channelizers for Homecoming Parade.
- Relocated and installed new stop sign at Old Jefferson Hwy. and 172nd St.
- Relocated stop ahead signs on 180th St.
- Swept Downtown area, Harbor Lakes, Diamond Crest, Clay Creek, Lake Meadows, Hillcrest St., Rock Creek and Wildflower
- Filled in holes on Church Street with AB3
- Picked up tree limb that fell at 513 Hawthorn St.
- Picked a Zero Turn mower from Heritage Tractor to Demo.
- Started working on getting sidewalk formed up at 124 us-169 Hwy to prepare for concrete.
- Repaired street sign at Onyx St and Emerald Ct.
- Utilities
- Total Drinking Water Production 6,913,000 gal.
- Completed all testing required at the WTP.
- Staff completed ground maintenance at WTP, Water Towers
- Conducted weekly chemical level checks at the WTP for ordering.
- Backwashed filters 1,2,3,4 and 5 at the WTP.
- Completed grounds maintenance at the WTP.
- The lab door at the WTP was replaced by a contractor.
- Staff conducted troubleshooting on high service pump #2 and found that it need a full rebuild.
- Staff pumped down the pit at the NW tower due to the rain.
- Completed 29 work orders
- 53 locates completed
- Completed 9 new water connections.
- Treated 7,919,000 gallons of wastewater
- Completed all testing required at WWTP
- Staff completed ground maintenance at WWTP/Pump Stations
- Completed weekly checks of all booster station and towers in the distribution system.
- Collected and delivered 3 E-coli samples to the KCMO laboratory.
- Repaired a water service leak at 701 Indian Trail.
- Installed new tires on the trailer for the mini excavator.
- Cleaned the headworks and removed the grit.
- Staff repaired a water leak on a 2-inch line in the basement at the WTP.
