- Citizens Academy learned about Public Works this week. They toured the Wastewater Plant. They have one more session to go! Graduation will be held on October 7.

- Celebrated the birthdays of Bud Warring (99) and Bettie Bender (100) at the Senior Center this week! We showed portions of legacy videos the Smithville Historical Society filmed of them sharing about their lives. Everyone enjoyed hearing what life was like growing up nearly a century ago!
- Finished the Clay County Senior Services third quarter grant reports for the SC and fitness programs.
- Church and Mill Watermain Replacement: The City’s contractor began work on September 15. The contractor will continue working along Mill Street toward the intersection of Church and Mill. This intersection will remain closed to through traffic during the project; however, access will be maintained for residents and businesses. The project also includes replacement of the sewer service line at City Hall. This portion of the work is scheduled to begin in mid-October and may require intermittent lane closures on Main Street in front of City Hall. The entire project is anticipated to be completed by early November, weather permitting.
- Commercial Ave Sidewalk: The contractor originally awarded the Commercial Avenue Pedestrian Project informed the City they are ceasing operations and will not be able to complete the work. The City is coordinating with the bond company, and MoDOT to select a new contractor. Additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available. The contractor’s surety rebid the project and opened bids on September 16. The City is awaiting the surety bond company’s selection of a contractor and their proposal for next steps.
- Water Treatment Plant Improvements: New carbon and Lime feeders installed. New valves and actuators installed. Filter pipe gallery painted. Ross construction inspected the under drain on filter #1. It was determined that it needs a full replacement. We are currently waiting on pricing.
- 144th Pump Station and West Bypass project: shoring to begin on excavation for pump station next week. Epic will begin installing force main in next couple weeks south of HWY 92
- Sidewalk Replacement Program (Harborview): in progress. Anticipated completion: Fall 2025
- Diamond Crest Park Parking Lot: delayed
- 169/Richardson Signal application for Cost Share was submitted on 10/3
- Street Maintenance Program: Awarded to Asphaltic Surfaces. Location: Commercial Avenue (From 92 HWY to Meadow St). Work has been rescheduled for Spring 2026.
Maintenance Updates
- Parks
- Purchased and set up fall decorations for downtown and parks
- Checked and cleaned up Courtyard light pole electricity for Festi-ville
- Completed weekly mowing
- Painted sports fields
- Repaired painter
- Cleaned and prepared for multiple park events this weekend
- Streets
- Sidewalk removals and formwork completed at multiple addresses on Fletcher Drive, Fletcher Court, and Harbor View Drive.
- Sewer manhole adjusted (lowered approx. 4 inches) during sidewalk removal at 400 Fletcher.
- Rebar installed in curbs at Rolling Landing.
- New curb forms built and set.
- Curbs and sidewalks poured at multiple locations, totaling 7.5 yards of concrete.
- Dirt and seed added to backfilled concrete jobs at Belinda Drive, NE 181st Street, Fletcher Drive, and Fletcher Court.
- Cleared debris at Amory Bridge.
- Mowed multiple areas including Helvey Lake, NE 172nd, Old Jefferson, Bainbridge, Eagle Parkway, ponds by the south shop, and Eagle Parkway rights-of-way.
- Cleaned shop break room and maintained shop grounds.
- Utilities
- Total Drinking Water Production 7,659,000 gal
- Treated 5,143,000 gallons of wastewater
- Completed 35 work orders and 86 locates
- Completed all testing required at the WTP and WWTP
- Hosted the WWTP Tour for Citizens Academy
- Staff completed monthly meter reads.
- Staff completed grounds maintenance at the WWTP.
- Staff replace the pump rotating assembly for pump #2 at Diamond Crest lift station.
- Pump #1 was not pumping at Rollins Landing lift station. Staff had to clean the air relief and replace the check valve flapper pump is repaired now.
- Epic Concrete found an unknown line obstructing the bore under 169 hwy for the 144th street force main. Staff exposed the line and conducted a tap to see if it was live. It was not.
- Installation of the Mill Street water line is slow but moving.
